It should show the network name. Since people need to know they’ve joined the network as a whole.

If you named your network the same as your main site, that would be why.

How about changing it to the sub-domain address? That way they get the name of the sub-site they have joined and the name of the main site. (Example: myblog.mainsite.com)

My sub-site admins are wanting some autonomy and their users to know they have joined “their” site.

    Just asking.

My sub-site admins are wanting some autonomy and their users to know they have joined “their” site.

You may want to rethink having your sites be ‘Multisite’ then… Keeping a secret that people have made an account on the Network is just not sustainable. Too many plugins and aspects assume known networkability.

Here’s the biggest reason: Your emails for new users come from [email protected]

Even if you’re not a member of that site, when you’re logged in you’ll see the toolbar on the top of the site (similar to how I see WP.com’s when I go to CNN and so on). Also you can comment on any site that allows logged in users to comment.

My suggestion would be to give the network a generic enough name. Consider it to be a full disclosure aspect of running sites.

    Thanks Mika, for your help.

They don’t mind being know as a part of the main site. They just want users to know that they are joining “their” site as well. So on the registration page and sign up welcome page, instead of:

    “Create your account on MainSite”

    How about:
    “Create your account on subsite.mainsite.com”
    or
“Create your account at SubSite on MainSite”

Do you see what I’m getting at? I really appreciate your patience and help.

Why not put that above the shortcode?

I really don’t want to diverge greatly from the signup code I’m duplicating already, as it makes it harder to support when WP changes. That’s why I went for a shortcode, so you can edit the actual page, and leave the code alone.

Right now, no, it’s not something I want to do.

No problem. Thanks for thinking about it.

I hope to have lots of sub-sites (don’t we all!). Is there code I can put above the shortcode on the page that will automatically print the sub-site and main site names?

You’ve been most helpful. You’re quite knowledgeable. Will do. Thanks!
