Show subcategories in homepage slideshow for a WordPress site

  • Hello,

    I am trying to build a website using WordPress. The theme I am using features a homepage slideshow for featured posts. I would like that slideshow to display some subcategories of a parent with their excerpt (if there is an excerpt for categories). Is that possible?
