Showing categories description in homepage

  • Good morning,

    I was wondering if it’s possible to show categories descriptions in homepage.
    I tried tweaking a bit the front-page.php code with no result.
    I may have placed the code in the wrong place: here’s what I found on WP Codex ‘ <?php echo category_description( $category_id ); ?> ‘.
    Can you help me making it work properly?
