Showing custom field in directory

I want to display a custom field in the directory.

What i have already done:

– Made a custom directory template
– Tried some editing, and ideed, the edited content pops up in the directory (so my custom template works)
– Tried every method i could find on the internet to echo/print the custom field

It didn’t work out. Can you mention the phrase/code fragment to print a custom field?

The field is field_36.
