Why didn’t you raise a support topic for your problem?

What then are the ratings for? :S

I have no personal enmity, and am very much open to discuss with the developer here… if and when he does solve the problem, why wouldn’t I raise the rating?

Once again, why are the ratings available then if you guys have so much against the 1 and 2 stars?

@amodoke, as Jan Dembowski mentioned, you open a discussion by initiating a support request. It is plain to see that the support forum for this plugin is actively maintained.

You stating that you have “no personal enmity” only verifies the converse. This leads me right away to question your integrity and the validity of your so-called screenshot.

why are the ratings available then if you guys have so much against the 1 and 2 stars?

We like all, well written, well-researched, reviews. The more the better! But reviews that are written before even opening a support request are completely pointless and undermine the usefulness of the review system for everyone else.

@esmi Can a moderator remove bogus reviews like this one?

We don’t normally remove these reviews for two reasons:

    1. The responses to the review (especially yours) can go a long way towards putting your plugin in a more positive light as well as (hopefully) illustrating the steps that should be taken before posting a review.

    2. Due to technical limitations in the current system, deleting a review does not remove the rating. and we feel it’s better have responses to poor reviews (like this one) rather than 1 start rating with no comment. Again, your plugin’s profile can only really benefit from this.

Plugin doesn’t work out of the box. User says it so and gives a low rating. Where while signing up does the forum mention that “unless you dont open a support thread AND only if it is not addressed are you allowed to rate low?? :S

And then its a “bogus” review?
Your inability to accept low ratings while calling potential users “bogus” amazes me.

My simple question to you: Did the plugin work as expected? When the answers NO, isn’t it then that you rate something low??

    @mod
New users are not aware of the “you have to” open a thread else you are forbidden to give a low rating. Shouldnt there be a simple prompt asking the user if you want to contact the dev before giving a low rating??

Its a pity you all assume everyone is in the know about the norms in here.

    *Looks over and confirms*

No one ever said that, it’s just a misunderstanding.

What was meant is just leaving a 1 star review of “It’s broken” doesn’t indicate anything useful by itself.

What caused your web site to send gzipped data without the compression flag being set? Was it a problem with the plugin, your server missing a module, a setting?

    That’s why I asked

Why didn’t you raise a support topic for your problem?

Because doing some troubleshooting first can result in a better review. That makes it more useful to everyone when you take the time to do that.

You can leave a 1 star review with anything you like. What the moderators are asking is that you work with the developer and leave more informative reviews.

@amodoke “Doesn’t work out of the box”… where is the support request explaining this? Your last support request simply illustrated your lack of understanding regarding Google Page Speed Insights. Nothing to do with Gator Cache.

In case you don’t understand the meaning of “bogus”. This means fake, deceiving, etc. You can find plenty of information on this term, as well as Google Page Speed, by performing a Google search and saving all of us from your inane posts.

I was honestly going to take a calm step back and in fact, was going to apologize to everyone for being brash and rude.

But I doubt the dev will still think I am “his enemy”, and doubt my “integrity”, even calling me “bogus” yet again.

This level of hostility just bcoz a non tech user gave your plugin a low rating?

    I even said this…

if and when he does solve the problem, why wouldn’t I raise the rating?

That does not mean “enemy” or “bogus”, that means the initial experience was bad, but maybe the dev would have been so awesome, that the user may have CHANGED it to 4-5 stars. Bad initial experience, but maybe awesome follow up.

Sadly, I guess, the dev teams over here are too strong for non-tech users to afford to make culture mistakes.

Genuine question to mods: If you EXPECT people to open support threads before they rate a plugin 1 or 2 stars, why not just ASK them before they can do that!?

Anyway, I openly apologize for my part – my uncalled rudeness, my inability to understand what I was expected to do, and my really short ‘review’ which it wasn’t anyway. Was just exactly what happened, that’s it.

But I AM angry on the dev for his part – calling me bogus, questioning my integrity (check ANY of my other posts please), and being completely hostile. That’s not done man, calling someone’s posts “insane”, not done.

Lastly, I am changing my rating to 5 stars… because any other rating is not allowed unless you are born understanding coder norms.
