    Hi there!

It’s well known that WP 2.3 uses taxonomy with corresponding terms hierarchy, parent and child terms etc.

For instance, I’ve parent term “cities” and child ones “Tokyo”, “Mexico”, “Mumbai”, “New York”, “Shanghai”, “Los Angeles” and so on.

I have such question. How to display just child tags from parent one using wp_tag_cloud()?

The usage of ‘exclude’ and ‘include’ parameters I don’t consider to be right, ’cause of its inconvenience and weak possibilities.

    Could anyone help?

  • Tags do NOT have hierarchy. There is no way to specify that a tag is a child or a parent.

    Categories DO have hierarchy though.

    Thanks, MichaelH.

But both tags and both categories ARE terms, in DB they have similar fields including ‘parent’ field. So logically it could be supposed that they have similar properties (hierarchy). Hope it will be implemented soon.

I think you might have a tough time convincing devs about making tags hierarchical. If you are of the mind, I’d suggest joining and sending an email list to the wp-hackers email list to get some other impressions on that subject.

Im for that, too. or some kind of tag-linking; if i tag tokyo, that it is automatically tagged city aswell… than it neednt be hierachically, as i can also make tokyo a child of japan and of “cities related to the blonde actress”
