The latest version replaced the “non-printed” characters added at the beginning of excerpts (addExcerptCode – which’s code comment says it prepends non-printed characters) with printed characters (+*-).

This causes these characters to appear on the page briefly before the JS has a chance to remove them.

This should be done the same way other stuff is done, using the _buildDiv method so the contents are hidden from view.

  • I have the same problem.
    Any sugestions to solve it?

My +*- replaces any excerpt that should be displayed and therefore I can’t use addthis anymore. If I set addthis to not show sharing buttons at all with excerpts, nothing shows at all where the excerpt text should be displayed. I use a Weaver II theme.

bump – they fixed the characters that broke RSS feeds with this latest version, but the characters now show at the beginning of every excerpt

I sure hope this gets fixed soon. I really don’t want to have to find another sharing service as I’m using addthis on three other sites that aren’t WordPress where it’s still working fine. I want to use one service for all of them and don’t want to have to change everything out on four sites.

The 5.0.3 version of the plugin is now an official build and is available via the usual update within WordPress.

We believe 5.0.3 resolves the issue with the +*- characters. I’m marking this thread as resolved, but if we’re mistaken about the fix, please feel free to reopen it or reach out to us and let us know about the issue.
