• I am trying to set up a copy of my WordPress site on another server for testing and experimenting purposes. I backed up the side before doing anything using the backup to drop box widget. I then used WP migrate DB to move a copy of the site onto the new server. This took quite a while as there were rather a lot of files (4444, an easy number to remember!). Apart from the odd curiously duplicated CSS file this seemed to go okay. However when I try to log into the site I’m greeted with the install window. The DB tables are there and seem to be correctly populated. The url in the options DB table is correct. The installation worked before the migration – was a 1 click install on the public_html directory of a Hostgator server. What is causing it to default to the install for both viewing the blog and admin?

I’m still trying to sort this out. I re-installed WP the traditional way not using the HG one click. It worked just fine. I then re-copied the files from the live site using fileZilla and migrated the DB using WP Migrate DB plugin and PHPMyAdmin. No luck – takes me to the install page. So I followed the install procedure using the same user and password as the last clean install (could this be where the problem lies?)- WP told me that the installation had been successful. I can get into the Admin pages and I see a clean install, but viewing the site shows me my self made under construction file (index.html) in the root directory of the hosting ( the same directory as wp-content, wp-admin etc.folders. I can see from PHPMyAdmin that the new installation is in the same DB as the migrated tables, but has different prefixes ie wp_options and gp_options. Is there some wizard out there that can tell me what is going on? Thanks

Sounds like you followed the correct procedure, but just in case you might have missed a step, here is an article with the steps I use to copy/migrate a site:
