Side Of Post?
-
Is there any way to get the share bar to appear on the left side of the post at the top like with the share app within Sumo Me?
Thanks.

By the way, I disabled Floated Share Buttons. This was kind of what I wanted, but it was floating on the left hand corner of the index page of the blog and messing up my sidebar on the site on the left. I only want it within a post on the left side of the post and not within the site’s sidebar.
Hey @jixxer there’s likely a way to do this with a little bit of custom CSS added to your site’s template. However, before attempting to prescribe a specific set of steps, could you send us an example screenshot of what you are trying to get this to look like?
You can add attachments, etc if you send in a ticket here:

Thanks for that Greg. Here is a screen shot on the link below of what it might look like (taken from the Sumo Me Plugin running with their Share app). This shows it running on the upper right of a post, but having the option in your app to have it either on the left or right would be good. The more options the better for people. Would rather have it integrated int your app rather than adding more custom CSS to a theme. This would allow other people to have this new functionality too.

Also, I think it might be good if you changed your Facebook icon to be like the one in the screen shot. Yours doesn’t look quite so right with the white square around the letter F.
Lastly, some of the social media share plugins I have seen have also designed that side bar (on the left or right of the post) to be a floating bar that follows down the screen as a reader scrolls and moves together with the post, giving the reader the opportunity to share at anytime without having to scroll back up to the top to find the side share bar again.
Hope that helps. Thanks again
Hi @jixxer,
Thanks for the screenshot!
Yes this is indeed possible with Shareaholic. We have two types of Share Button widgets you can use:
1) The “Floated” Share Buttons which you initially tried. However this is not able to be added within a post. It will always be oriented in relation to the overall page (as opposed to the post within the page).
2) Our standard Share Buttons, which you can place in any specific place on your site that you would like, and you can customize their orientation and layout. You can easily demo this by going here:
Click the second option under “Layout” and you’ll see how these can be vertically aligned. You can also right-align them instead of left-aligning them.
The key thing you might need to do is place a code snippet in the correct location. By default, the WordPress plugin will give you several standard locations for Share Buttons, and for these you do not need to manually place a code snippet. You would simply click the “Customize” button within your Shareaholic plugin settings, as outlined in this article:
For example, you could customize the “Post Above Content” location to be vertically aligned, and then see how that renders for you.
If you can’t get it to be located the way you want, you would then place a code snippet in a specific location in your template, by following these instructions:
https://support.shareaholic.com/hc/en-us/articles/200470606-Customize-Shareaholic-Location-on-Individual-WordPress-Pages-and-SidebarsAs for the Facebook icon design, thanks for the feedback! We’ll certainly keep it in mind as we work on the icon designs!
Best,
GregThanks Greg. The issue is that the floated share buttons being always orientated to the overall page is the problem. For me it ends up falling within my left hand sidebar and covering up some of my site navigation instead of ending up within the post. That is the issue here. I pointed out also that Sumo Me offers it to show within the post instead of on the page as I showed you in that screen shot.
Would also be great if you could fix up the Facebook icon design at some point. It looks kind of OK as it is now if you are using square share buttons, but in the rounded version really unappealing to me.
Also, I used to use this one for floating share buttons and can’t remember why I removed it, but they were really beautiful and had the placement, float and everything really well taken care of. Hasn’t been updated in a while though now I see:

Cheers and best wishes with this project. Hope you can resolve these issues eventually.
Hi @jixxer I understand why the Floated version is not working for what you’d like, but did you try the configuration steps I mentioned above for the standard (non-floated) share buttons? This might do exactly what you’d like!
Best,
GregThanks Greg, you mean adding code snippets? Thanks, but if that is the solution, rather not. I make so many changes to my sites all the time I try and install plugins that require no code customization. I am only keen to do that with themes. Thanks again.
