Side-scrolling through posts one at a time

Might be more of a CSS than wordpress question, but here goes anyway.

I’d like to display the most recent article in a specific category with only its preview image in a box at the top of the page, with left and right arrows to flick to the next one, in effect scrolling through the possible posts.

I’m alright until it gets to the scrolling, got the image preview sorted. But I’ve got no idea how to approach the next part and no idea what to search for to find people that might have already implemented it.
