I am making my own theme. https://devproshare.com/wp

The formatting is fine sidebar inside container, the aligning isn’t.

I removed the ul tags and now it just sits over the edge as you can see on the site.

You need to make the primary content div narrower so there is space for the sidebar — set a width. You will need a width on the sidebar too. The sum of the widths of the primary content div and the sidebar div must be less than the width of the containing div.

It’s still going underneath.

Add float: left; to the primary content div.

Ok, but that completely removed the container background.

I have the same problem at my site.

You need to set a background for each floated element.

Ok, but this isn’t really helping the problem. I guess i’ll have to create a few more images -_-

I mean why does it not work like my header? Inside so I can use the background and just change the opacity?

You never mentioned opacity — but if that’s what you want to do, perhaps this will be helpful:

Or just duplicate the way you did the header — but as I said, when you have a floated element, it does NOT inherit styles (i.e. backgrounds):
