My sidebar disappeared. Any help getting it back would be greatly appreciated! I’ve tried figuring it out and looking up other threads to find something to try help for the last 2 days, so I figure it is time to ask. I’ve tried restoring an earlier version at the host site but that didn’t help either.

I am not sure if this is when it happened or if it was earlier, but I did try to add a google adsense widget to the sidebar. When I went to add it, I noticed my regular sidebar was in the “inactive widgets” at the bottom. I recreated all those widgets in the primary sidebar that was active, but a sidebar still didn’t show up. It is leaving room for one to the right, but nothing shows up there. I’ve since deleted all the widgets in the sidebar except a text one that says “test”. The headers and footers are fine.

The theme I am using is Zeus. I have noticed when I go to try to pick another theme, in the preview, most of the themes I can’t see a sidebar there either when it shows my site in the preview even when they are shown in the sample theme photo. There are a couple that I can but 9/10 I can’t. I’m not sure if this matters, but I wanted to mention it because I was just going to switch themes if that would bring the sidebar back, but it doesn’t.

Thank you so much in advance for any help.

What did you do before your sidebar disappeared?

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
I am not sure when the sidebar disappeared exactly, so I’m not for sure what I did that caused it. The activity I can remember, I will list. I put up the latest post I have up on there on the 17th, I can’t recall if the sidebar was there or not then, but I think I would have noticed if it was gone. Before that, it would have been months since I did anything, though it does auto update WordPress so I guess it could be that. When I was adding a widget for adsense two days ago is when I noticed it was gone, so I’m not sure if that played a role in it. I did take that off since, but no sidebar still. I tried restoring from the host for a month ago (so before any of this) and nothing changed.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Thank you so much! Just followed that advice, here is how it went.

I disabled all the plug-ins and it automatically picked the twenty-seventeen theme. With that, I am able to see the sidebar (yay), even with all the plug-ins activated (I deactivated all then activated them one by one, saw sidebar with all of them). However, as soon as I disable troubleshooting mode and it went back to my regular theme, I don’t see the sidebar. Does that make it a theme issue? Any way to tell? I then went into appearance -> theme and picked twenty-seventeen as a live preview and I do see the sidebar there with that one (most previews I don’t).

If I go to the customize area for my Zeus theme that I currently have in the widgets area, it shows my footers but does not show a sidebar there. Instead it says this:
Your theme has 1 other widget area, but this particular page doesn’t display it.

You can navigate to other pages on your site while using the Customizer to view and edit the widgets displayed on those pages.

However, when I navigate to other pages, I can’t see or edit it there either. I do not see a sidebar on any page on my site, either. And it isn’t anywhere else on the page like at the bottom or anything, either.

That suggests issue with your Zeus theme.

I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/zeus so the theme’s developers and support community can help you with this.
