I can see the potential of this plugin.

To start with I want do something simple. In fact I wand to do the same thing as in the thread “Side bar not showing on front page”

I want a sidebar showing on all the blog entries in my blog. (The side bar is just a list of the blog entries from the same category).

I’ve followed the instructions in the thread but I cannot seem to make it work.

    1. I have a Blog page registered in my Readings settings.

    2. I have a sidebar with a widget on it to list the posts from the category ‘MN’

    3. I have created a condition group for the sidebar which includes ‘All posts’ and the selected category.

For some reason the sidebar will not appear when I go to the blog home page, though it does appear on all the individual blog posts.

I have tried all the Exposure settings but these don’t seem to make any difference. Handle is set to Replace.

Any suggestion as to what I am doing wrong?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

PS have viewed the YouTube vids but these don’t answer the specific question, although they wil be useful when i get the hang of this.

Am I correct that you want to display the sidebar only on the blog page? I.e. not on single posts and not on category archive pages.

If this is the case, open up the screen to edit the sidebar. Make sure that your condition group only has “All Posts/Blog page” and that Exposure is set to “Archives”.

Let me know if this works for you or if you have any questions.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply. NO that didn;t work.

Here’s what I want to do:

List my blog posts using a category page: my-blog
Show menu X of blog posts in sidebar

    Select post from category page
Show menu X of blog posts in sidebar

I have set content aware menu to: Posts: all posts; Category: My Blog

And as per your post I have set Exposure: Archive

And I have set Handle: Replace Main Sidebar

Whatever I do the sidebar menu of blog posts (the one I have created with Content Aware) will not appear on the main category page (my-blog).

I have tried just about every other setting, including manual! (Though I’m not sure what to do with the template tag. Also, the shortcode seems to generate an endless loop when used so the page load times out)

I have tried so many combinations of settings I am now very confused.
With these settings I can get the Content Aware sidebar menu to appear on individual posts but never on the main category page.

The only way I can get sidebar on both the main category page and and the individual posts is to have two identical sidebars:

    (i) A normal sidebar ‘My Blog 1’ (with taxonomy setting ‘My Blog’) – sidebar generates a alist of posts in the category using shortcodes from another plugin.
(ii) A Content Aware sidebar named ‘My Blog’ – this generates a list of posts in the same way as sidebar (i). Settings: Condition Group: All Posts, Category: My Blog; Replace: ‘Main Sidebar’.

Sidebar (i) shows on the main category page and sidbar (ii) appears on the individual post pages.

The logic of this arrangement is baffling. Why can’t I just create one sidebar using Content Aware to appear on both the main category page and the individual posts?

    Thanks or any further advice.

    Slight correction to settins

    (i) A normal sidebar ‘My Blog 1’ – sidebar generates a a list of posts in the category using shortcodes from another plugin. Settings: Taxonomy category = My Blog

(ii) A Content Aware sidebar named ‘My Blog’ – this generates a list of posts in the same way as sidebar (i). Settings: Condition Group: All Posts, Exposure: Singular (or Singular and Archive); Replace: ‘Main Sidebar’.

Note: Exposure Archive does not work. Sidebar (ii) appears only on main category page.

    This also works:

Normal sidebar has no content in the text widget except the CA shortcode.

As I said earlier, I have fiddled with these settings again and again and as far as I can see these are the only ones that work.

This plugin has potential but at the moment, as I said earlier, the logic of its use baffles me.

For your last question: It is indeed possible to create a sidebar to be displayed. It does sound like there are some incompatibilities with your theme.

If I understand correctly, you can set up content aware sidebars for all other content but the My Blog category archive. Is this correct?

What is the name of the theme you are using?

I agree that the logic might be difficult to understand, and it will be changed completely very soon.

I might be having the same problem, but I swear this was working previously and the theme has not been updated.

I am using ThemeGrill’s Spacious Pro theme.

My other dynamic sidebars are working fine, but in the theme’s Blog – Posts Page, the sidebars do not appear. Also, going to a simple Category listing page does not show the sidebar. Yet, Individual posts do give me the sidebars correctly (Yes, I have Singular and Archive chosen.)

I have chosen right sidebar in the page and the sidebar condition is Posts > All Posts/Blog Page (I don’t know if this is significant, but when I click Update, the item in the Condition Group changes from All Posts/Blog Page to just All Posts.)

I also tried changing the condition to Categories > All Posts, but same result there.

    Any ideas for me?

The text change should be no concern but it understand it might be confusing.

Did you recently install another plugin or place a new widget in your sidebar?

If you want your sidebar to be displayed on the blog page, it is important that the condition group do not have any other content than that.

    Thanks Joachim.

It turns out the theme I am using pulls from the layout chosen in the default layout section. I just had to make that match up.
