• Hi guys,

I have just finished a new installation as a private Intranet, using Turnkey Linux. Theme is Twentysixteen, with a child – everything is fine, except that when using IE11, the sidebar is at bottom. Sidebar only contains “Recent Posts” and “Pages.”

Yes, I know, it sounds like a theme problem. Except that it happens no matter what theme I use. Tried several other “Twenties,” and a couple more.

Everything is fine in Chrome and Edge. One other interesting thing – if I use IE11 to play with appearance settings (none of which help of course,) the preview on the right shows the sidebar correctly. Only the live site, without being logged in, shows incorrectly.

Also tried: making browser window as wide as possible, multiple computers, multiple OS, removing all posts, removing all pages, removing all widgets, removing all plugins… none helped.

No, you can’t see it because it is not on the public Internet.

    Thanks in advance.

Without seeing it, it’s difficult to help, but I’d recommend googling on “CSS IE11”. It’s probably one of those stupid little quirks that make us all crazy.

if it does not seem to be a theme problem, it could be from the styles of one or more plugins or caused by invalid broken html within the content of posts or pages…

problem remained after removing all plugins – in fact it is still running with no plugins at all – and as I said, I already tried removing all posts and all pages, problem remained.

    what are the validator results?

    any invalid html detected?

As far as I know a validator does not work on a site that is not on the Internet.

copy the full html code as you see it in the browser (browser tool bar – ‘view source’ or similar) and you can run it over the validator.

have you tried any other online site based on Twenty Sixteen to see how that behaves in IE11?

    (for example, try the online demo of the WordPress.com version – although this might be different;

Other online sites are fine. It does it no matter what theme I use.

what contents do you have in post and pages?

Cannot test validation for another week, as we are shut down. The problem remains, with no posts and no pages.

Hello All, I have a same problem at https://www.hphlifestyle.com, all sidebar move under Post when use IE 11 incorporated with Microsoft Edge based on Windows 10. However, the display is proper for Chrome, Microsoft Edge and ipad, but for iphone the “Search button” appears up the post block and sidebar under the post block.I am a newbie, please advice me. Thanks a lot in advance.

OK, since someone else chimed in, I remembered about this problem, and did the validator thing.

For “errors,” it found a missing quotation mark in a link in a post, and a missing “alt=” for an image in another post – I fixed these but still have the problem.

There are also (4) warnings, which look promising, but I don’t know how to fix them. Probably theme-related. Promising, because there are a couple of references to sidebar and footer:

Warning: The banner role is unnecessary for element header.
From line 118, column 3; to line 118, column 58
    nt?? <header id=”masthead” class=”site-header” role=”banner”>? <d
Warning: Element main does not need a role attribute.
From line 138, column 3; to line 138, column 48
    -area”>? <main id=”main” class=”site-main” role=”main”>?? ?
Warning: The complementary role is unnecessary for element aside.
From line 229, column 2; to line 229, column 72
    ea –>??? <aside id=”secondary” class=”sidebar widget-area” role=”complementary”>? <
Warning: The contentinfo role is unnecessary for element footer.

Tried a few more themes, and eventually found one that caused the problem to go away – then switched back to my Twentysixteen child, still fixed.
