I’ve read tons of comments concerning the sidebar floating down to the botton of the home page on IE6 and still haven’t been able to resolve my particular issue.

    1. My posts are entered directly through my blog, not cut and paste from anywhere else.

    2. I’ve already checked off the Formatting setting to have WP correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically.

    3. I’ve gone through all my problem posts and edited them to make sure that the closing tags are correct. (As far as I could tell, and by using the Close Tags button on the HTML page.

    4. I’ve used the Validator and my site actually got a green light until the Revered posting on 09/16/10. But I don’t understand what the errors are saying to me about the video so I don’t know what to do with that.

Yesterday was the first time my sidebar floated back up to the right side of my home page, until today’s posting – Gabber. That forced it back down to the bottom. I’ve already checked the code and all the tags are closed.

I’m at loss as to what to do next. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

  • You might want to look at adding some conditional comment CSS to your theme. It’s sometimes the only way to deal with older, borked, versions of IE – especially relating to margins, padding and the computed width of some page elements.

Why waste your valuable time supporting IE6? Something I would never do personally on any of my sites, users should definitely be encouraged to upgrade to newer browsers.

If can’t get the conditional CSS working, there’s always this plugin:

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. I’ll try the conditional CSS 1st and then the plugin, if CSS doesn’t work, but I’m actually leaning towards dgwyer’s suggestion. I already put up a plugin to alert the readers to upgrade their browser, but it just grates me to see that sidebar on the bottom.

    Thanks again.

I hope I’m not too late, but you could try a trick I used for this page: https://newcastlechristianstudents.org

The text in the middle originally displayed correctly in all browsers other than Internet Explorer, which pushed it below the images instead of in between.

After much Googling and pulling out of hair and frustration at IE, I tried adding <span> tags around to trick it which fixed the problem.
