I am trying to add a sidebar to my front page as the theme only seems to support it on blog pages.

When I edit the page, in the settings area, it says “to change the sidebar for front page… and then outlines steps to add “front page” to the “archives-type” tab but I’ve done this and it still won’t let me select my new sidebar on the home page and the list view of pages gives the notice “Not available for Home Page”

  • Hello @ari14850

    I hope you’re well today!

Custom Sidebars plugin can replace any sidebar on site but it can’t “inject” sidebar to a template that doesn’t support any sidebar. In other words, if the theme does not allow/implement sidebar in a given template file, plugin can’t generate or “inject” custom template there.

So, for example: if there’s just one sidebar added by the theme, the same across entire site, the Custom Sidebars plugin will let you create multiple custom sidebars and use them – different ones – in different parts of the site. But on the pages where no sidebar is used at all, it won’t be able to add it, unfortunately.

In such case, you’d need to create a custom page template (preferably via a child theme) to include that default theme sidebar there – and Custom Sidebars would then let you customize it fully.

    Best regards,
    Adam
