• I’ve searched to see if my problem has been mentioned before and tried a few advices I’ve found in others’ topics, but nothing worked.

If allowed, I’d like to keep my blog private and only mention the problem.

Yesterday(20 Apr) my website has been down for a couple of minutes. My last post was on April 19.
When it worked again, I made a new post. For some reason the sidebar moved to the bottom of the page, so I deleted that post. I’ve tried more posts, but with every new post, it gets shoven to the bottom of the page.

    -This happens in every browser,
    -This happens in every theme,
-I’ve removed images that are too wide,
-This does NOT happen when making a new page.

So, what got me confused is that I didn’t do anything about my site and all of a sudden it messes up.
I’ve tried to see if re-uploading some files work, but it didn’t work. I’ve removed my last post, to see if it interupted anything, but didn’t work either.

I wonder if the downtime could have anything to do with it. I’ve sent my host an e-mail and I just got a reply: The down time was caused by a client using a script to send a few thousand e-mails. It shouldn’t have affected my WordPress blog. So that can’t be it?

I’ll gladly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

  • Among the advice you’ve tried, have you tried to validate your page at https://validator.w3.org/ ?

It’s not much of an answer, I know, and it might return more errors than you expect, some of which won’t be relevant, but this kind of problem is often caused by mis-nested tags in your html. Without being able to see your site it’ll be difficult for any of us to figure where exactly the error is.

It is unusual for this to come out of nowhere unless it’s related to a particular post.

If you do choose to validate, don’t be overwhelmed if the results seem over the top; often a small number of problems can cause a large number of errors.

I have tried that too, because I’ve seen that advice in a different topic. I don’t have any valid coding, and over 70 errors. I’ve looked through them, but mostly were “no alt tag specified” on image links.
    Thank you anyway.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the site looks perfectly fine in the Preview frame. (On the page where you make a new post)

Guess: You have 2 errors already which are cancelling each other out. Adding a post generates a 3rd error which screws things up.
If it does not happen on a page that would fit.

Change away from the editor and use the other view.
Carefully got through each post and check the tags are balanced within each post.
Check that no single tag starts before a ‘more….’ link and ends inside the ‘more….’ link.
Validate post by post not the whole page.

    Quite difficult…

I just noticed I forgot to try out the WordPress Classic 1.5 theme: everything shows up fine on that one.

    I’ll keep trying. Thank you.
