Sidebar widgets required default?

Please tell me that I’m overlooking something obvious in settings. I simply wanted to enable 2 sidebar widgets on 3 pages. After installing this and configuring for said pages, there is a “remove this…by adding widget” box on EVERY page (sidebar). I don’t want any widgets on any other pages.
Unless I’m missing something, this is a terrible default.
