• Hey all,

I have upgraded 2 sites to WordPress 4.2.2 and in both cases the Sidebar widgets that I had in the site disappeared.

I had a “text” widget in the sidebar with some simple html, css, or contact form 7 short codes in them and they just vanished. Nothing in the sidebars now.

    A) Is this an issue with WordPress or my chosen theme (both sites used the same theme)

    B) is the sidebar info stored in the Database somewhere? If so – which table? I made a backup of the DB so I could just restore that table (I think) and get my sidebars back without re-creating them

    C) if “B” is not possible – is there another solution to restore them so I don’t have to re-create them.

I have to update about 6-8 sites now, and I really don’t want to experience this again.

    Thanks in advance

    No.

    Try:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If that does not resolve the issue, then I recommend you contact your theme’s developers. You’ll be more likely to find a good answer from them, for they have the access to its code.
