• Hi,

I’ve been using WPV to backup a site that natively has about 3.5GB of stored files. The resulting WPV backup size has always been about 1.1GB and has worked fine. A couple weeks ago, without any significant change/reduction of files, the size of the WPV backup dropped to about a third of its normal size (~360MB).

I’ve deleted WPV plugin and reinstalled it, but the file size is still the reduced one. Outside of creating a new site, installing WPV, restoring the new backup and checking the resulting site, is there anyway to verify that this new reduced size backup is not missing anything? I’ve not seen this before.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

The most reliable way to test a backup’s functionality is to restore it to a new WordPress installation and verify that the site operates as expected.

The easiest way to compare two backups is to examine the contents of each ZIP file, including wp-core, wp-content, uploads, themes, plugins, and the database. Identify any differences between them to determine the root cause of any discrepancies.

Depending on various WPvivid settings, such as the value set for ‘Exclude files larger than’ and the files or folders excluded from the backup, the size of backups generated from the same website can vary.

    Kind regards.
