    Hi,

I want the signs after the excerpt to be “read more” and not the default “[…]”. So I changed that in the widget, but the brackets still show. When I tick off the option “Set signs after excerpt as a link to the post?” the brackets till show…
    So why isn’t this working?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • You may be able to remove the brackets with some CSS code but the Bracket provide a more visual indication that there is more to the post. It highlights the link to [ReadMore]. AS people are skimming through the page , just seeing Read More doesn’t grab their attention as much, if they even read it at all.

I can’t understand that mistake. On my servers the brackets do not appear on the website if they were deleted from the input field.

And it has never worked for me. So every update I hoped it would be solved, but I more or less just excepted it… Now a client asked me specifically to change it so here I am.
What do you need or know more to be able to understand why this is happening?

I just went into your site with Inspector and saw you just have the […]. I changed this to Read More and it showed up fine. Can you do a screen shot of the setup page?

Martin, Does this plugin have to be used with the widgets area or can it be placed in a page or post with short code?
Please disregard. I found the widget in the Elemenntor Editor area.
I just tested this and was able to remove the []. Could this be a cache issue?
Try removing everything in the “Signs after Excerpt” area and then just put “Read More” and update. Then respond to this post and we can check it too.

The plugin was produced to work only in widget areas. And it was tested only in widget areas. To work in other areas or in page builders or via a shortcode was not intended.

Martin, thank you for the update. I did find that your fantastic plugin does work with Elementor too. If you scroll down to the WP widgets in the list you can find your plugin listed. Just to let others know, I have used this with no problems in Elementor.

Does your WP installation use any cache? If yes please empty it, and the browser cache, too. Are the brackets still there?

    Hi Martin,

This is really stupid of me, but I used the widget twice, once in a page builder on the homepage and once in the widget area on the right of pages. I changed it in the two widgets and now it’s working fine.
    Sorry for the trouble.

    Kind regards,

@erwinodendaal Thank you for that helpful information. Fortunately it is not a bug in the plugin. I had to smile. No worry: Those “slips of the pen” happen to everyone. ??
