    More info:

when i directly embed into the WordPress site page using YouTube’s iframe code, the largest the video displays at is whatever width and height was in the YouTube iframe code. But when I shrink the window the video does shrinks responsively. If I change the initial width and height to a much larger size, the video will fill the space better in larger window sizes.

but this feels a little hack-ish, and i wondered if there is a more elegant solution.

ALSO, in those smaller display sizes, yes, the video itself shrinks, but there is a black background, which may originate with YouTube, which doesn’t get smaller but gets very tall above and below the video as the video itself behaves responsively in smaller and smaller windows. Is there a way to make the black background be as responsive as the video itself?

    Thanks for any tips, guys.

you could use this generator: https://embedresponsively.com/ to produce responsive embedd code. It’s on github too: https://github.com/jeffehobbs/embedresponsively
