WTF happened?!
-
Updated review: After noticing that my security plugin was still showing attempted attacks on my login page, I did a bit of research and decided on this plugin.
For about a week, it worked fine. I’m not a developer, so I called my hosting company support to check on things and do an update and backup. While they said that the method of this plugin isn’t a sure thing, they agreed that it was generally fine that I installed it. And yes, I followed all directions to the letter, which is why I was surprised to get automatic emails saying that there were still brute force attempts on my login page, even after setting this up properly. (This can also be due to attackers using other browser methods to find your URL, which this plugin can’t protect against.)
Anyway, I had already made note of my new login, etc. and had zero problems.
Once, last week, I had to reset my password (still not sure why, because it was both copied & pasted, and written exactly, so all my attempts were definitely correct). Now today when I suddenly started receiving a 404 page. Now I’m INEXPLICABLY locked out of my own site, unable to access the login page I created with a renewal coming up in 10 days. No matter what, it keeps showing me a 404 page. No matter what I’ve tried in the support forum and FAQs, my page isn’t showing at all.
My security plugin is top-notch and has not emailed to alert me of any suspicious access. So, whatever is happening it is definitely coming from this plugin.
Disappointment is putting it lightly, especially after this plugin was recommended by a few bloggers whose credibility I now question.
I’d say skip this plugin unless you have dev experience or a dev on hand, because the knowledgebase and failsafes are both pretty much nonexistent.
Previous review:
Very simple to use, and I noticed there were no attempted logins on the hidden admin page after I installed it, so it must be effective.
