• Others have said this – core WP does not need emoji. If we must have it in core, it should be configurable via the dashboard.

    This was particularly annoying on one of my sites which hosts my granddad’s WW1 diaries which we are posting as a blog in delayed real time (100 years post).

    We use footnotes extensively and the backlink at the end of each footnote was (and now is again) ?

    Compulsory emoji support changed this to a conspicuous blue image which was wholly out of keeping with the style of the rest of the site. Nasty.

    Thanks for the plugin – works perfectly. I’m just annoyed that it is necessary…
