• Dear Friends

My wife and I have a blog we’ve enjoyed developing since 1999, and now we’re thinking of moving to WordPress. We believe being able to quickly post a quick blog entry from any computer would be better than our doing everything from just one machine.

Believe it or not, we can’t find a theme that fits what we want to do. I’ve spent just a couple of hours looking for themes, and in that time I’ve found that it’s a never-ending ocean of choices.

I’d love to create my own theme. I’m moderately experienced with HTML and CSS, but I don’t know squat about MySQL and PHP.

    Here are our criteria:

    1. Minimalist (but not spartan) design
    2. Thumbnail galleries just like we have now that use the FancyZoom (or something similar) to view larger images without leaving the page
    3. No comments
    4. No advertising
    5. No section for recent posts
    6. Valid HTML5 or XHTML and CSS
    7. No Flash

We’re willing to hire a WordPress consultant if necessary. I’ve done about two dozen Web sites from scratch and can’t believe I feel as if I’m over my head in creating my own WordPress theme.

Of course, if there’s a commercially available theme that meets the above criteria, please point me in the right direction.

Thank you very, very much for any help you might be able to offer.

  • Your best approach (in my opinion) would be to look for a suitably minimalistic theme in the Theme Directory and then possibly look for a lightbox or gallery plugin that has the functionality that you require.

    Dear esmi

    I’ll do that.

    Thank you for replying.

And to the person who emailed me, thank you for emailing me. If I’m unable to get this going by myself, I will contact you.
