• Hi gang,
I have looked at a few image plugins and can’t find what I am looking for. The wordpress upload image seems to automate the size of the thumnails. I wish to make my “thumbnails” rather large – roughly 450px x 300px @ 72dpi. I want complete control over the thumbnail resizing as there will be verticals, panoramics, etc.
    I don’t want a gallery or a slide show.
I simply want to be able to click on the “thumbnail” and have the larger, higher res version open up without navigating to a new page.
I would prefer if this happens in a popup window or something similar with perhaps a “close window” feature.
If anyone can guide me to a plugin that might come close to this I would be grateful.
    Thanks,
    Andy

  • I use lots of photos on my blog and the best plugin I’ve found is Mudbomb’s WYSI, https://mudbomb.com/archives/2005/02/02/wysiwyg-plugin-for-wordpress/ . It supports making of thumbnails, is extremely easy to use, and can also be used with another Java plugin by m3nt0r to display the images beautifully (https://www.m3nt0r.de/blog/lightbox-wordpress-plugin/) It’s all very easy to install and there is virtually no configuration needed. You can take a look at it on the site above and I’m also using it on my site, https://www.AdventureDad.com

    Good luck

Give a look at Image Manager from https://soderlind.no – it allows a lot of customization.

    Hi vkaryl and Adventure Dad,
    Thank you for your help.
I uploaded wysi-wordpress several times but it doesn’t work for me. When I activate it, there isn’t any functionality. I get the buttons etc., (although the images don’t show up on three of the buttons). I think I am doing something wrong with the upload but I’m not sure. I uploaded the zipped file and then extracted all of the files to a directory in my plugins called wysi-wordpress. That did not work. I then made directories one at a time and uploaded the corresponding files (a lot of work) and that did not work. I tried each method twice to no avail.
As far as Image Maker from https://soderlind.no goes, the link will not work for me.
I’m not sure what to ask or what to do at this point, other than to look for more plugins.
    Thanks again,
    Andy

Hi AndyW – try https://www.soderlind.no/ – without the 3w works fine for me, but might be different for you.

    Hi vkaryl,
Maybe there is a problem with my browser. I get a blank page.
    Andy

Huh. Okay. Let me upload it here: https://bytehaven.com/tmp/ImageManager2.37.zm9 – give me a few minutes, ‘kay?

[You may need to download 7zip from https://7-zip.org/ to extract this archive – winrar will do so…. but 7zip is free….]

[[and it’s there now for you….]]

    Very cool vkaryl! Thanks heaps.
    I’ll give it a whirl.
I’ll let you know tomorrow how it went.

    thanks for your help.
    Andy

You’re welcome. Let me know if I can help further (though I have to say I don’t use any of the image sort of plugins; I use windows live writer, and then tweak the generated output to make it validate….)

    Hi vkaryl,
Sorry about the delay. I just reformatted all hard drives and reinstalled the os. everything is working fine now.
I have imagemanager installed and it works very well. just what I needed. once I release the blog I’ll send you a link so you can have a look.
thank you very much for your help.
