Simple Local Avatars not displaying avatars

Description of plugin-the plugin is meant to add local avatars to a blog. you upload a photo using a browsing screen and upload a file from your computer and it’s supposed to display wherever a gravatar or other avatar would be.

now to the problem- all i get is broken images where the avatar should be, have checked on multiple computers and browsers. the images do get uploaded to the folder “wp-content/upload” and even gives them multiple sizes and renames them. but they arent being shown on the website or in the media library.

How to resolve this?
