Simple problem – home page post displays

I’ve searched extensively for an answer to this but can’t find it. I simply want my blog to display the latest post, as it is set to in the settings. I’ve tried toggling widgets on and off and nothing doing. It just says no posts found. The static link works, but latest posts do not. I’ve also tried different themes. Nothing working. Please help.

Think I’ve figured it out – I wrote a page, not a post. How stoopid.
