This has happened a few times already. I am not sure what is causing this. It does not happen to all the variable listings and I can’t see any correlation to why it happens to some and not all. Categories, Tags, Attributes used, number of variables, time created… I don’t remember if it is happening to the same ones because it’s occasionally happening. I have about 80+ product listings with variables so it’s hard to track which ones each time. When it does happen I can still use “Filter by product type” and find all the products that should be variable and switch them or it would take forever to check each listing individually. All my plugins are up to date. Only thing I can remember is I did some updates recently.

    Mailchimp

I see others have had this issue but none show how it was resolved.
These could have caused this to happen but I am not sure how to troubleshoot this. Any help would be appreciated.

This started to happen some time ago. Not sure when exactly. I think this is at least the third time it has happened in at maybe a 6 month time frame.

    Hello meatface888,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have read your initial message and the title as well but I am not able to understand the issue.
Could you rephrase what you mean by this?

Simple product listing changes to simple product listing

Once I have a better understanding of the issue, I will be happy to help. ??

    Best regards.

When you create a product listing in Woocomerce you can make it as a Simple Product or another option is Variable product. Variable Product allows you to give customers the ability to select things like different colors or size for example. The problem I am having is that most of my Variable product listings automatically change back to Simple products and I am not sure why it is doing this.

Tried to add an image of this but it’s not working.

More info about adding product listing can be found here: https://woocommerce.com/document/managing-products/

    Hello meatface888,

    Thank you for your reply.
    I understand the problem now.

When you create a new variable product, when does it change to simple?
Right after saving the product or after some time?
I am trying to determine what triggers this problem.

Also tell me when did this problem started.

It would be helpful if you could record a video and show me how you create your variable products and how they change to simple products. You may use Loom or Awesomescreenshot tool for creating a video then share the link with me.

Looking forward to your response. ??

    Best regards.

This is not happening to only one listing.

It has happened about 3 times now in maybe 6 months but not sure what triggers this. I am guessing it could be caused by an update but don’t know which one because there are so many updates all the time. I don’t notice this right away either and sometimes it’s customers that tell me because it’s intermittent.

I have about 100 product listings that are created as a Variable listing and around 90 of them will change to to Simple Product listing. I can’t seem to find what is common between these product listings and why only these change and not all of them. They are in different categories and have different tags the attributes used some are same and some are different.

Also after they have changed to Simple product listings I can still filter by Variable Products and find all the items I had as Variable Products even though some have changed to Simple Products. This is how I go through to fix each one manually. I go through and change them back to Variable Products and save updates about 90 times. Maybe about 10 I noticed were still Variable Products so not all of them changed.

I have no idea how to replicate the issue so I can’t record a video when it happens.

    Hey, @meatface888!

Not being able to replicate the issue makes it hard to troubleshoot, so let’s set up some things to make it easier to gather information about what happened if it happens again.

On your live website, please install a plugin such as WP Activity Log to keep track of the plugin updates. This way, if the issue happens again, you can check what was updated right before.

Also, if it happens again, as soon as you notice it, check the error logs on WooCommerce > Status > Logs and share the recent ones with us so we can take a look.

I also suggest setting up a staging site, and installing WP Activity Log, Error Log Monitor?and enabling?debug mode.
If the error happens on the staging site, please share all the information on these three fronts so we can take a look.

This way we will be able to have more information to investigate this further.

    Looking forward to your reply.

Just wanted to provide an update. I have installed the suggested apps and they have been running for some time now. I have had many updates since then but nothing has triggered the incident again. I will keep monitoring and notify when it happens.
