• Update ~ November 19, 2018
With the Gutenberg plugin activated for a month (100% of the time) and a commitment to LEARN something new, I’m more impressed by the day! My new articles have a sprinkle of each new feature that I discover — and the FUN continues, because I’m building a LEGACY.

    Update ~ October 10, 2018
With the opportunity to work with the Lead Developer, this afternoon, via a Zoom Meeting session (he was in Australia 8:00 AM his time), I am impressed. To understand the passion and effort going into Gutenberg has made a believer out of me.

Original Subject ~ Simple to Complex (Reverse Genius)
Congratulations — you have managed to take what used to be Simple and made it Complex. In fact, you’ve moved beyond Complex to Dysfunctional. The ability to ‘Open Link in New Window’ feature ‘Box’ is still there — it just doesn’t work, anymore. What a waste of Time and Resources. Either, pull this Grand Idea off the WordPress Platform until you can get it Right, or simply put this whole Idea out of our Misery.

First, thanks for taking the time to test the new editing experience. I would really like to find out why the open new link feature didn’t work for you. What browser for example were you using or theme and plugins?

    Wow!

    I’m impressed — a Quick Response.

I do understand the ‘potential’ of Gutenberg and am willing to work with you to make it better.

Here is a link to a Google folder containing answers to your Questions above:
    Gutenberg

If you are able and willing, I can host a Zoom session for us to examine the Issue, together.

As you will notice, I have removed the Gutenberg plugin, because of the Frustration described in my Review. I’m willing to reinstall the Plugin — if you choose to work with me.

@kimfoard Those are pictures of your dashboard and the plugins screen. That really isn’t helpful and doesn’t answer anything.

To directly answer your issue, the Open link in New Window toggle basically just adds target=”_blank” to the link. That seems to be working just fine, and it adds it to the edited content without issues.

@otto42 Let’s be clear — Your ignorance and arrogance don’t fix anything. I offered to help fix what is BROKEN. I reinstalled the Gutenberg plugin and have recreated the ERROR. You try it — click the little Box and Apply; and, there is NO link created.

IF you were paying attention, I provided the information for which Tammie Lister @karmatosed asked: WordPress Theme and Plugins.

After her gracious Reply, I changed the Gutenberg rating to 3 Stars — now, it’s back to the original rating, which is being generous: 1 Star.

I suggest YOU get to work on fixing what is broken and quit insulting my intelligence.

Here is the link, again, to The Gutenberg Joke.

@kimfoard I’m not sure where you got “arrogance” from me pointing out that you posted the wrong screenshots. You could have just said what you were posting, so that people would know what they were looking at.

As for the link creation tool in Gutenberg, I did test it before replying to your post, and it works fine and correctly as far as I can tell.

You highlight the word you want to make into a link. Then you hit the link button. Then you type in your URL. If you want it to open in a new window, then you click the vertical dots and turn on the new window option. Then you hit the Apply button which is shaped like the Enter symbol. The link is created and it correctly has target=”_blank” in it when I preview the post.

So, at what step does this break down for you? I’m happy to provide advice and help you figure out what’s wrong.

I took a look at your newly posted image, and that’s inside the Classic block, not in the normal Paragraph block where one would be expecting to use that sort of thing. So, yeah, would have helped to know that.

After testing, I can reproduce the problem, but only using the Classic block, and only by inserting the link using that specific options dialog. If you use the normal Paragraph block, or insert the link without that particular dialog, the link is inserted correctly.

This is good information, and I’ll report it to the Gutenberg folks as a bug.

After checking, it appears this is a known issue and the bug is already being tracked here. Thanks for reporting it.

With each Update, since I posted my original Review, I have given benefit of doubt and a Royal Boy Scout effort to make Gutenberg perform on my Website: https://kimfoard.com/

I can see and understand the inherent benefits of Gutenberg.

I cannot make it display my Posts — created with the Classic Editor — correctly.

An example is this article, Begin With YOU.

This post was created with the Classic Editor — and evidently, I must have made an Edit while the Gutenberg plugin was activated — because, now, it is displayed in the listing of Posts as a Gutenberg creation. But, it will NOT display correctly with the Gutenberg plugin active.

If there is someone, somewhere, who CARES, please, have them work with me to resolve this VERY frustrating Issue.

Everything we need to Understand the issue is in this Google Drive Folder. And I have captured visuals of two more Post — to prove this is a Pattern of dysfunction.

By the way, because I “believe” in the INTENT underlying Gutenberg, I have changed my Review to 3 Stars.
