Simple URLs is not working properly on my website, https://www.thecraftsmanbungalow.com, it just redirects to my homepage, not sure how long it hasn’t been working.
I use it to track all my banner advertising on the right sidebar, as well as within some posts. It redirects to my main homepage. I am using WordPress 3.5.1, and I just updated Simple URLS to v0.9.6, but it was also not working with v0.9.4

    Can you assist?

  • @craftsman107 Have you tried resaving permalinks?

With Simple URLs installed and active:

    1. Visit Settings → Permalinks.
    2. Click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page. (You don’t need to make any changes.)
    3. Check your Simple URLs again.

Thanks for getting back to me Nick.

I followed your easy instructions and things are running back to normal again! Is this something that I will need re-verify periodically, or will the operation I just performed fix it for good?

Great to hear that solved things for you!

You should not have to redo this very often – it’s most common after a site migration, database change, or when altering your site’s address.

Future versions of WordPress may remove the requirement to save permalinks after changes like this, but it’s the first thing to try if you do happen to see it again.

    Great. Thanks again, Nick!

    Nick,
It appears that this fix was short lived. It seems that resaving permalinks only temporarily corrects the problem. I’ve resaved permalinks numerous times today, and only some of the links will redirect correctly, and it doesn’t look like its counts clicks either. Others still just go back to the homepage again. Any thoughts on other things that could be causing this? Could it potentially be a server issue?

    Nick,
I’ve looked into this a little further and it kind of looks like if I edit any other features on my site (even saving a new post), the Simple URLs won’t work again, until I resave permalinks. Have you seen this type of issue before?

    Hi, @craftsman107.

It sounds like something is overwriting or corrupting your rewrite_rules entry in the wp_options table. Simple URLs stores the /go/ redirect rule there. If it’s removed or altered it could prevent the redirect from working.

I can’t reproduce this on my own sites after saving a post, so it could relate to another plugin you’re using. You could try disabling all other plugins, then saving permalinks and saving a post to see if the redirects remain.

    Nick,
Thanks for all your help with this. I deactivated a plugin (2J Slideshow) that appears to have been causing the issue, and it looks like all my simple urls are back to operating as normal. If you’re curious for your own interest, perhaps you could install that plugin and see if you can replicate the issue.

    Thanks Again!

    RESOLVED

    Thanks for the update, @craftsman107.

I haven’t made time to look at the plugin you reported as causing this, but it could be a URL conflict or altering of the rewrite rules in some way.

Glad you were able to track down the cause, though!
