Simple web fonts?

I bought the Magazine Premium theme a few years ago, and recently tried a few different themes that I hoped would be faster. None loaded as quick as Magazine Premium, so I put my old theme back.

I have been running page speed tests, and a few things that seem to be slow the site down are:

https://netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/font-awesome/3.1.1/css/font-awesome.css
https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans:400,700|Quattrocento|Raleway:100|Lato:300|

Would it be faster to use a simple, web safe font that all broswers will handle? If so, how do I do this? The fonts are all controlled in the theme customization section – is it possible to delete the lines of code that ask for the google fonts and had the font-family to the main style sheet?
