Single line text save to taxonomy not working

I’m able to check the box save to taxonomy on a single line text form field just fine, but the select list to choose a taxonomy is not populating at all. Any suggestions? The taxonomy is properly created and associated with the custom post type and I see it in my admin when I manually add new posts.
