Single post view broken in IE8

When I view all the blog posts or posts by category or tag they appear fine but when I view a single post strange things happen to the formatting of the page.

Have I done something wrong to the single.php page?

Also, do you know why the text does not go right up to the image in IE and has that large amount of white space?

Everything looks ok in Chrome and FF.
