    Hi,

I am encountering the following issue:

    In my sourcecode I use:
    [thumb id="1742,1741"]

To display two thumbnails in a post or on a page.
Some images are displayed, others just won’t show up. No matter what I try.
The page simply returns the message no images were found for some pictures, but not all.

I already tried to use a default WordPress theme with all plugins disabled except NextGen, no luck there.

Also tried to use a different code to display the images:
    [ngg_images image_ids="1742,1741" display_type="photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails" number_of_columns="0"]

    Still the same issue.
The images are most certainly present. Neither the filename or accompanying text contains any special characters.

Also tried different browsers with wiped cache, etc.

I noticed that on the support website, the same issue occurs on: https://www.imagely.com/docs/displaying-galleries-overview/
In the NEXTGEN SINGLE PICS section.

I am at a loss to what to do in order to solve this issue. Can you assist?

@derice – There is no [thumb ...] shortcode in the current NextGEN Gallery; and, the generated shortcode you are trying to use would not support what you are describing.

Your best approach for a single image is to use the SinglePic shortcode, although if you require two specific images to be displayed at the same time I would suggest creating a gallery for those two images and then displaying that specific gallery.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I am a bit puzzled by your reply. If there where no thumb code. How come, some are displaying as expected and some are not.
I upgraded from v1.91 where it was still working, for all thumbs I created with that shortcode.

If there where to be no more support, than it shouldn’t work for all, right?

Is there no backwards compatibility for the thumb id= code? Sounds strange and that would mean that I would have to replace there tags in over 400 pages. Cannot image that you would oblige users to do this…?

@derice – It appears you are updating from a code base that would be well in excess of four years old, we no longer support NextGEN Legacy installations and cannot guarantee their constructs will work in current NextGEN Gallery installations although we have made efforts to maintain backward compatibility as much as possible.

    Thanks!

Fair enough that something that is four years old can’t be supported anymore. But at some point the tag was depricated and removed.
What was the migration path for users at the time? Perhaps I can follow the same path. ??

@derice – That particular shortcode was not brought forward. Unfortunately there is no particular “migration path” we have for users aside from replacing the shortcode with something more current.

Can you perhaps indicate at what point in time (date/month/year) the thumb id= was removed from NextGen gallery coding? Perhaps I can find something based on that date online on how to best proceed.

Still… I find it very strange that the thumb id= does actually still work, but not just in all cases…
If it was removed entirely from the sourcecode, it shouldn’t work at all anymore…

@derice – My apologies, although the [thumb] shortcode is not specifically supported or recommended to use it does still work in all cases I have tested. That being the case I would expect it to work and display images assigned to the id parameter as a collection using the NextGEN Gallery Basic Thumbnails display type (for one or many images).

You can find the relevant code in this file: ../wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_basic_gallery/module.nextgen_basic_gallery.php

If your shortcodes all follow the sample example you provided in the OP, the only thing I have to recommend currently is to insure those image IDs are correct.

    Hi Cais,

Thanks for getting back to me.
I’ve verified the images ID and they actually exist.

What I did notice, the following:
Images in the gallery that are marked as “Exclude ?” are not displayed in the gallery overview. (As expected & by design, no argument there).
Checking the “Exclude ?” box however also triggers the “no images were found” message within a post when using the thumb id= tag to include a single thumbnail of an image.

I can reproduce this, even for newly uploaded images.

Until I upgraded from 1.91 to the latest NextGen Gallery, this was working perfectly.
Seems that there is either a bug or change in the coding that causes this behavior.
It’s reproducable for all my posts and pages where I’ve used 1 gallery to place all the images in and selected a few images to be Excluded to be displayed in the gallery.

I hope that the support staff will look into to this and hopefully fix it. ??

    Arnoud.

@derice – As the [thumb] shortcode is now a rendering of the NextGEN Basic Thumbnails display type excluding an image under Gallery > Manage Galleries will not have it be displayed. If you need to use these images with your [thumb] shortcodes you can change to excluding the relevant images in the actual basic displays where the gallery is being used instead. Excluding an image via the Insert Gallery Window (IGW) / Add Gallery button interface only affects the specific inserted display and is not a global setting like the exclude option under Gallery > Manage Galleries.

Thanks for digging into this and finding that detail about excluding images.

    Hi Cais,

Thanks for your reply, that looks like something I can work with.
Will involve some work to quite a lot of albums/galleries, but in the end it will work as I want.

One final question, how would this be applied to Albums containing several galleries?
I tried to look for ‘exclude’ there, but as far as I have been able to determine, is no option to excluded images there. Correct? Or is there an other nifty trick I can apply for this scenario?

@derice – We do not really have a method to exclude images from galleries when called via an album display.

    (@derice)

Ok, than I will see if I can create an album page manually for the time being.

Can this option be submitted as a feature request? ??

@derice – You are welcome to suggest it as a Feature Request here: https://imagely.com/feature-voting/
