    Hi,

I noticed that in 4.7.7 and 4.7.8 searching did not work for single words. For example, if in the profile it said “I love music” and you search for only “music” no results would be found.

I happened to have a copy of 4.5.2 so I downgraded and it works now. Just wanted to let you know to see if you can fix this.

In case it helps to know, I’m running a multi-site with this plugin network activated. WordPress 4.8.2, BuddyPress 2.9.1

    Hi schmickler83,

Version 4.7.5 introduced the search modes at field level. Please go to your Edit Form page and make sure that the search mode is set to contains. If it’s set to is, the search won’t return single word matches.

For details about the different search modes, please see:

I’m having the same issue. My search was set to contains. For example I was search for Autumn, i got back no results. But if I search for Brian I get an result. Also if i search on any organizaton, which is an xprofile field I get now results.

    Hi pandraka,

I’m unable to duplicate this on my site. May I see a live example of the issue you are reporting?

Sorry I can not give you access to the site, it’s a secured company site. The only thing I can see that is different is that Autumn has never activated her account. Could that prevent her from showing up in the search?

Yes, that could definitely be the problem. You can verify that with a new test account: it will be invisible before activation, and become visible afterwards.

As a general rule, if a member doesn’t show up in the Members directory he/she won’t be part of any search results.

This member shows up, but the account has never been active. She is a new member.

I guess that this member shows up when you select Order By: Alphabetical in the members directory. In the same way this member should show up in the search results when you select Order By: Alphabetical in the results page.

    Can you confirm?

Good Morning, Yes, she shows up when I select Order By: Alphabetical in the member’s directory.

And does she show up in the search results when you select Order By: Alphabetical in the results page?

So if I sort by alphabetical (not orderby) she shows up. If I filter by organization she does not, unless i sort by alphabetical. I believe the issue is that to see anyone who hasn’t been active they sort needs to be alphabetical. I’ll probably need to make that the default

I just wanted to say ‘Thank You’ to Andrea. I followed your instructions and the single word search is working. ??

    @schmickler83: You are welcome|

@pandraka: Yes that’s the issue. I’m going to mark this topic resolved now.
