single.php not being called upon by the template

Hi everyone,

I’m new to WP and think I’m doing pretty good so far, but right now I’m stuck on an issue I just can’t seem to overcome.

I have a custom template, where I have my index.php file located in the root directory, while all other files for my template are located in the template folder named appropriately.

Well, I have recently added the single.php file to the template folder, as I want the index.php to only show the snippet of each post, then the single.php file to show the entire post. My issue is that it seems my site is still using index.php to show the single post as opposed to single.php like it should according to the hierarchy.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Is there something obvious I’m missing?
