• I’m having a problem. i recently started using a static front page under settings>reading. In WordPress general settings I set the Site URL to my domain, https://www.wintercarnival2012.com. the wordpress address is simply https://www.wintercarnival2012.com/blog. After a while the Site URL changes to the /blog address. when they are both the same it is an endless loop of the static front page. the only way out of it is to click on “blog” in pages area. then it links to https://www.wintercarnival2012.com/blog/blog. i change the Site URL and it will stay correct for hours, but then at some point it will change itself back to the /blog address.

    Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening?

    Thanks
    jimmy

    OK, i completely get what the confusion/issues could be because of that.
    so any suggestions on what to do? i tried changing the “blog” page to “news” that didn’t change anything.
    is there a way to “start over”? reinstall or something?
    thanks for everything and any more suggestions.

    You need to undo all of those changes, so that the site reverts back to https://www.wintercarnival2012.com/blog/ first. Then create, publish a configure a new main posts page called anything but Blog. Then if the site starts working properly again, work slowly through the instructions in Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory one more time.

    what confuses me is when you say “undo all of those changes”. everything i did, i did the day i installed wordpress. it is not as if it has been some work in progress. the only thing new is the static front page, and removing that does not fix anything.
    is backing it up, deleting everything and restarting a valid option??
    thanks again!

    You install WordPress in a sub-folder called blog. You then re-configured it (possibly incorrectly) to run on the root domain. You need to go back to the orignal /blog install and start again.

    the original install was into the /blog folder. since it was an original install and not moving to a new location, the instructions were to change the index file, which i did.
    require(‘./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php’);

    my understanding is that this directs hits to the main site hits to the /wordpress (blog in my case) folder, which is the goal of having wordpress in it’s own folder. i am confused by what you mean “go back to the original”. what i have is the original. i did not change or move anything, this is how i originally installed WP.
    the only thing that needed to be done from the instructions here, Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory, was to change the htaccess file, since the install was into the /blog folder and not moved.
    i’m so sorry. i am sure i am missing something terribly silly and simple. “going back” to something else does not seem like an option. the only thing i can go back to is having no blog at all.
    thanks!
