• Hi all,

For the past few days, my site has been under attack. I’ve suddenly started getting 10x the number of page views. The only think in common is that they are using Window 2000 and Internet Explorer 5. The IP address seemed to be spoofed. A lot are from the US, but they seem to keep generating new ones. So I’d rather not start blocking them wholesale. Any ideas for stopping this attach. It is slowing down my site.

The site is threesheetsnw.com. I’m using WP 3.0.1 in the multisite format.

    Thanks

Have you contacted your webhost explaining them the issue?

Thanks t-p. Yes I contacted my host and they shrugged their shoulders and said there wasn’t much they could do.

It sure seems like a DDoS attacks, but not enough to really shut the site down. Yesterday, I got around 25,000 pageviews, which is about 10 times the normal amount.

Do you have too many images? My understanding is that each and every image in a given page are also counted and included in pageviews. Just a thought.

yes, we have a lot of images. But those aren’t what’s causing the trouble. It is pretty clear from the stats that someone is using a host of IP address to hit the site. The give away is the Internet Explorer 5. I know that very few folks use that anymore.

Maybe I’ll try my host again.
