    Just ran a site backup on a site that had not been backed up for a while. The site backup using Updraft Plus took 1 hr, 40 min and failed to complete. Why did this backup take so long and fail to complete?

    Hi,

    Please could you send us a copy of the latest backup log where this error occurs?

    This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.

    The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Best Wishes,

    Hi Ashley,

    Could you give me an email address where I can send the log file to? Its not a large file so I should be able to easily email it to you.

    Thanks for your help,

    Updraft Support,

    Could you provide an email address for me to send you the log file?

    Thanks

    @tmweb The best thing to do is post it at a service like pastebin.com, and post the link here. The contents of logs aren’t security sensitive.

    The log file is posted on pastebin.com. Any update on how to fix this issue with the backup taking too long and failing?

    Hi Ashley,

    How long a backup takes is a function of only two things – how much data there is to back up, and how much resources the web hosting provider provides (which includes not just their theoretical provision, but what’s actually available, which can depend on other things, e.g. how over-loaded the server is). The log shows that in this case, unfortunately, that appears to be “astonishingly little”. Here are our tips on how to minimise resource usage: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/how-much-resources-does-updraftplus-need/

    You could also try adding this to your wp-config.php, near the top, to see if it’s just that the server has some particular problem with its zip binary (it causes UD to request use of a different zip engine on the server):

    define('UPDRAFTPlUS_NO_BINZIP', true);

    @davidanderson,

    Thanks for the response. Will try out your recommendations to get this backup to complete on this site.

    I use Updraft Plus on several other sites and have never had this issue before.

    Thanks,

    @davidanderson. Thanks for the help. I made the changes to expert settings and wp-config and the backup was successful.
