• I can view several sites designed with WordPress but I am unable to view my site from work. We use SmartFilter at my office. My question is, do I have something behind the scenes on my site that is triggering this from being blocked? I don’t have anything provocative, it’s just a simple family site.

    My site: https://thepolings.us
Others that I can see: https://nathank.com

I am not sure if it has to do with the .us domain.

When I google thepolings.us, it get strange results referring to password cracks and hacks etc.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • sigh.

worry about making sure your files and directories are secure, then ask your work what the deal is.

I don’t know what function the wp-ari folder serves, but I renamed it temporarily to see if that causes any issues…so far no.

I appreciate you letting me know that was there, but I own the site and didn’t know it was there.

“making sure your files and directories are secure” statement is exactly the type of info I am looking for. Do I need to get a book on PHP or CSS basics? Is there a title that someone likes that anyone would suggest?

It serves no purpose. its not a WordPress directory or a file. Your site was hacked, I located that url based on nothing more than a google search of that domain name.

I suggested that you speak to your work, not to make them aware of the directory,or because I thought they owned it, but to suggest that they can better answer any questions regarding why you cant access that web site from there.

Thats a question for them, not us, in other words. The scope of this forum isn’t so broad that I am going to prattle on about simple networking troubleshooting either —

The hack that I made you aware of was just a side note to your original question.

No. What you need to do is just do a little googling and aquaint yourself with these technologies. For instance, CSS is used for design. Its not a language, per say, and as such, isn’t used as tool to maliciously attack web sites — at least not in the context of this topic (god knows some web sites look like theyve been attacked by their CSS, but thats another issues all together).

Furthermore a book on PHP basics isnt going to spend a lot of time on security.

What you have to do is look at what is on your site, look at the files, look at the names, learn to recognize them. Compare what you see there with what is included in the wordpress downloadable zip file.

if you dont know whats on your site, how can you possibly know if there is anything that shouldnt be there — and that, doesnt jive with this:

I don’t have anything provocative, it’s just a simple family site.

web spaces are like kids, they need to be nurtured and they need attention.

Boo hiss. I wanted to comment on your post about hair bands (why, in the name of all that is good and holy, was GREAT WHITE not included in that list?)… But I intensely dislike being forced to register just to drop a comment. ??

whooami – your explaination is clear, thank you and I agree that the scope of the forum is not to do the troubleshooting for me, yet to suggest or guide me in a direction, which you have.

jonimueller – your comment is correct to…why are some of those bands listed there and not others….I will remove the registration requirement from my comment section.
