Site Can't use Custom Permalinks

  • I am trying to build my wordpress site on my own server, which is running the latest ubuntu server with lamp option. I created a .htaccess file however I still can’t use custom permalinks.

    I really need some help here.

    check if mod-rewrite is enabled in the server, if not follow the suggestion of Samuel B to enable it

    have you un-commented it in the apache httpd.conf file? in the conf folder?

    look for
    #LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
    just remove hash so it’s like so
    LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
