• Hi!

After trying out WordPress for my blog, I’d like to use it for something different. I have a rather old website (https://www.tantallon.de/English/index_english.htm) full of individual html pages. If you have a close look at them you’ll notice that I used various editors and they all left their traces.
Additionally, updating the site is horrible.

Now, I was thinking of moving that site into a WordPress powered site. I would move the text-pages to WordPress pages, add news items as blog entires…

    Some things bother me:
Is there a nice and easy way to recreate my galleries via some plugin?
Can I keep using the colours and the background image? I know some html and less php/css? How would I do this?

    Is this transition sensible/useful?

    Regards,

    Tex

  • Of course. ?? almost any design can become a WP powered site.
Gallery is a little more intermediate in my opinion for setting up and integrating, but their is lots of support on the forum.

You can keep your colours and images. It requires changing the css. When I approach integrating a design, I check which templates look the most similar to what I am going to do, and then modify it.

Alexking’s website has lots of great templates due to the template competition he had.

    Ok, I’ve done it.
I decided to ditch colours and background image, though. The sketch of the castle was the only thing I kept (apart from the content, of course).

The site validates fine and looks good. Could it be better?

Not many sites, in my opinion are ever “finished”, so of course it could get better. But the bottom line is if you are fine with the design, your visitors can find everything that was there, and use the new design, then what you where doing is a success.

Having not seen the previous design, it would be difficult to comment on that aspect.
