I have a website called https://www.meesterlijkveilen.nl. In Holland, it is in Dutch.

On january 16th of this year 2023, around 6 pm it crashed. It came back up an hour later. The damage was by then done. This is because most bidders bid in the last minutes. I have a severe loss of money, approximately 15.000 euro.

I am now desperately trying to find out where the problem lies. I already know that the cpu usage on the server was too much. (Up to 100%) And the limit of the container within the server was reached. But that was with only 300(!) visitors on the site. Which leads me to cautiously conclude that it is a software problem and that the auction plugin within wordpress (or wordpress itself?) is not sufficient for professional use.

Can anyone help me with this? I am now at a crossroads for continuing with worpress and the auction plugin with more server capacity or choosing different, more robust, software.

Does anyone have any serious suggestions about this matter?

  • Hi @alainrotterdam,

We have checked your site. It looks like you are using the Ultimate WooCommerce Auction Pro plugin on your site.
    https://www.meesterlijkveilen.nl/

We have read your query. You have faced the issue of the site crashing because of more visitors. Please read the response below for your query.

You need to understand more as to why our plugin consumes resources as compared to other simple WordPress plugins.

    1. First of all do not think that it is bad that our plugin is consuming resources. It is not bad but is required for running auction products and as admin, you should focus on choosing the correct hosting service with the correct processing power to meet the needs of your website.
      ?
?The loading speed of a website is dependent on the traffic on the site. Since you are saying the load speed is not good then that could mean the following:

-> Check which kind of hosting server you have. Is it shared hosting, VPS, or dedicated hosting?

-> How much traffic is there on your website? As a general rule of thumb, if you have 3000 visitors a month then you should opt for VPS or a dedicated server and not shared hosting. And check RAM for your VPS and dedicated hosting and increase its capacity to the next level if your site is slowing.

-> How many auction products are there on your website?

    1. You should be aware that auctions do add up few actions which are required to run auction products, these actions are such:

?-> Auction Products have a Countdown timer logic where the server has to run constant checks to see which auctions are expiring.
-> Countdown timer logic where the server has to run constant checks to see which auctions are due to go live (future auctions)

As a site owner, you should have a hosting server capable of handling the traffic you expect for your website. If someone has shared hosting and has traffic of 10K users a month (forget auction products) then his site will obviously run slow. So, having the correct hosting capability will take care of the good health of your server.

???3. What help does the plugin provide to the admin to lower the processing? May we advise you to see if you have turned on these settings, then you can do below things:

-> You can increase the “Check Bidding Information” time interval. This parameter is under “WP Admin > Auctions > Settings > Auction”. By increasing the time interval, the plugin will send AJAX requests to the server after that many seconds. You can increase it from 1 second to 30 seconds.

-> If the above does not improve your problem (and note that you should have proper server configuration according to your traffic) then you can disable both:

WP Admin > Auctions > Settings > Auction > Instant Bidding > By enabling this setting, bids will be placed without page refresh.
WP Admin > Auctions > Settings > Auction > Instant Bidding > Get Bid amount information instantly without page refresh.

It will reduce the AJAX request and the possibility of the site crashing is reduced.

    Hi @alainrotterdam ,

Since you are using PRO version, kindly send us your queries separately as this forum is meant only for free plugin.

And just to update the response, do not forget to mention what hosting server capacity are you using and whether you have disabled the AJAX feature or not.

    Hi Nitesh,

I have already seen it. Thanks.

Can I ask you how many developers are involved in the maintenance, updating and developing of the this auction software?

I mean how is the continuation warranted?

    Thanks again for your reply.

    Kind regards, Alain
