We have inherited a site created by a third party.

I deactivated Wordfence yesterday and the entire site crashed, so we asked the host to restore the site to the last backup.

Once restored, we deactivated the plugin again, and also deleted the Wordfence folder in the plugins directory, but it did the same thing. Help please!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @creativepassion

    1) Restore the good backup.

    2) Before you deactivate Wordfence expand the Basic Firewall Options section on the All Options page.

    3) If you see a REMOVE EXTENDED PROTECTION button click on that button and then try to deactivate Wordfence.

Didn’t work. This is a nightmare. If we delete the Wordfence folder, the entire site crashes. If we deactivate the Wordfence plugin, the entire site crashes. If we follow your instructions, the entire site crashes. Help please! We can’t keep restoring the site from backups!

    Hi @creativepassion

If file permissions have been modified and are restricted too much then removing the Extended Protection from the firewall may not be possible.

Look in the root directory of you WordPress installation. Look for these comment lines in either a .user.ini or php.ini file:

    ; Wordfence WAF

    ; END Wordfence WAF

Also look in the .htaccess file for these comment lines:

    # Wordfence WAF

    # END Wordfence WAF

If you find the comment lines then remove the code in-between and try again.
