Was locked out and followed the instructions to rename the wordfence directory. Now have a white screen. Renamed the directory back to wordfence. Still nothing but white. My PHPbb forum that I have had for 15 years is also white. PLEASE HELP.

UPDATE: My host helped me to get the site back to non-white screen. Still can’t login to my admin though because of Wordfence (I think).

Hi @dyates63, thanks for getting in touch!

Seeing a white screen after specifically renaming the “wordfence” folder isn’t usual, as this is the fairly standard solution for recovering from an admin lockout or losing 2FA credentials. The most common cause of seeing a white screen with Wordfence would be when the firewall is optimized, and wordfence-waf.php (usually in your website root) is missing along with your .htaccess/.user.ini/php.ini looking for it in the auto_prepend_file directive.

Do you know what your host needed to change to get your site working again as it might point to the issue? Are you using 2FA or reCAPTCHA, or are you only inputting your username and password? Wordfence doesn’t control your WordPress username/password so any specific error messages after trying to log in, or red browser console errors on your login page might help us see what has happened.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
