site didn’t migrate from wp.com properly

  • I’m a total noob to this, I tried to migrate my web site from wp.com to wp.org and initially it worked although all my headings were doubled, came back to it after the weekend and found out I had to configure ssl with Let’s encrypt but I can’t even find my dashboard on wp.org, I did login though. Feel out of my element and frustrated, just thought it would be easier to reach out for support than fumble around. Thanks!

  • What process did you take to migrate the site? Export/Import?

    Any chance you can provide a screenshot of the issue you’re having?

    Thank you! I don’t remember all the steps. I signed up with Siteground, I downloaded files from wp.com, I uploaded the files to wp.org I thought. I was using instructions from a blog that instructed how to migrate from wp.com to wp.org as well as instructions from siteground and obviously screwed up. I’m sure I’m not giving enough information for you to help me but the link shows what comes up when I go to my web site.

    I see a website coming soon message which would indicate you might have a under construction or maintenance mode plugin installed.

    In order to see the issue you’d need to disable that.

    interesting, a short time ago it said “error 404”.
    How would I disable it?

    Once you’re logged into your WP Admin you’ll need to look for a switch or button. Sometimes it is at the top right.
