• HI

I accessed my wordpress dashboard a few hours ago for my site at https://www.laurareed.com

It prompted me that I had updates for wordpress and for some of the plug ins. I clicked on the button to update wordpress and it took me to an error screen saying wordpress was doing maintenance and it would return. I reloaded page and now website is not showing up. I also can’t access my dashboard. This is the error message that appears for either:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_user_metavalues() (previously declared in D:\hshome\c211702\laurareed.com\wordpress\wp-includes\user.php:1070) in D:\hshome\c211702\laurareed.com\wordpress\wp-includes\deprecated.php on line 2667

  • Hi,

The site shows up, but it includes an error at the top:

Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘check_theme_switched’ was given in D:\hshome\c211702\laurareed.com\wordpress\wp-includes\plugin.php on line 405.

There seems no access to the dashboard, like you said.

So let us see if we can restore control.
    !!NOTE!!
Be slow and accurate!! Work step-by-step. Complete and verify every step before moving on to the next step.

Since you state you’ve updated both the WP itself AND some plugins, we have to check both. However we’ll start with the ‘most likely candidate[s]’ first.

    1. Use FTP to access your site
      bv. https://filezilla-project.org/download.php
    2. FTP: rename all plugins by putting a ‘0’ in front of each plugin -folder;
      ../wp-content/plugins
    3. Check if the access has been restored
    4. If so: one-by-one, remove the ‘0’, checking every time to see if the problem re-occurs.
    5. when the problem re-occurs, you’ve found the source of the problem; Delete and find a working replacement.
    6. alternatively: FTP:Delete; Then download and install / activate a NEW version and see if this works.

If all of the above doesNOT work:

    1. Download a fresh copy of the most recent wordpress
    2. make a backup of wp-config.php
    3. FTP: Manually upload the wordpress, overwriting the old version
    4. check and restore settings such as theme-options, menus etc

    TIPS:

    Next time…
ALWAYS Make a backup of your site, before making any changes!!

    1. Use FTP to backup the files.
    2. Make sure to also backup your database.

    Also:

    1. Do updates ONE at a time
    2. Check if all went well after each update.
So you’ll know which one is the culprit, if things go wonky
