• Hi there,

I am hoping someone can please advise me on the following issue I have been experiencing on my wordpress website. I am currently trying to build a WooCommerce shop for my business. Previously when in testing mode, once I had placed a new order on the site, an automatic email would be sent to the test customer and site administrator and all was working fine. The work on this site then stopped due to personal circumstance and this week I have gone back to developing this. I placed a test order on the site and then noticed that I was no longer receiving automatic emails from the system.

I reviewed the site and health check and note that there was a critical issue with the site in that I needed to update the version of PHP my server was running on. I asked the hosting company if they could do this and I received feedback that when trying to update this they were getting the following message: “The site is experiencing technical difficulties”. Please note, my current PHP version is v.7.0. The hosting company said they got this message after they tried to upgrade it to PHP v.7.3 .

I also note that in my Site Health the following are recommended improvements – are these things that the Hosting Company should be able to fix?

“PHP modules perform most of the tasks on the server that make your site run. Any changes to these must be made by your server administrator.

Warning The optional module, exif, is not installed, or has been disabled.
Warning The optional module, fileinfo, is not installed, or has been disabled.
Warning The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled.”

Finally, does anyone know if the PHP server version would affect the sending of automatic emails from the site when a new order is placed (please note that I have enabled auto emails once new order is received.

I would really appreciate advice on this issue and would be grateful of any help.

    Many thanks

    Emma

  • hello first. I have had an error similar to yours on [redacted]. First of all, updating the php version must be done by the server. You have also taken the right step on this subject. On the other hand, if the problem is not solved even though you have upgraded the php version by the server, re-request the php supported version of the theme you used from the place you bought it. This is how I solved the problem on my site that I mentioned above.

    Hi Fulbaibu,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. I will wait for my hosting provider to get back to me – hopefully he will be able to update the PHP version and this will resolve the issues. Alternatively like you say I will go to the Theme provider and see if there is anything to be done there – I have just checked this and it is running on the latest version. Just to note, the Theme I am using is the “Virtu” theme – version 3.4.3.

I will continue to post here until this issue is resolved and once again thank you for your help.

    kind regards

    Emma
