• I have been having trouble with my newly transferred wordpress site. It keeps showing an error about the OLD database from the OLD server that has been deleted for weeks now. Here is the message:

    Can’t select database
We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the badchina_wordpress database.

    Are you sure it exists?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?
If you don’t know how to setup a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

Like I said, this database NEVER existed on MY server and has been deleted for some time now…also my server has no problems…there are no errors and no down time…Any help would be VERY appreciated…it is driving me nuts and it does it several times a day sometimes for hours.

Another weird thing is that sometimes I CAN access the site by adding www. However, it is like there is no template??

Oh, and I DID clear my cache more than once.

And a link would be? I’m afraid we can’t see what is occuring without being able to see it.

keep in mind that it happens periodically throughout the day…you may see it when you look…sometimes it is up…sometimes it is not. I would say it is up 1/2 and down 1/2 the day… ??

right this moment it is down ??

Your site has errors that will show here. First, correct your errors. BTW, errors are cascading so fixing one will correct several others. Once validated, check the error logs your host provides and see if you see a connection with your site being up or down.

I had the same problem and finally I would call my host as soon as the site went down. Finally I think they got tired and did something to fix it (had to do with the database) so it functions 24/7 now.

Hmm, works for me without the ‘www’ bit but 404s with it.

Part of the problem maybe the DNS servers that your host uses. Go to https://dnsreports.com enter your domain in the field and click on the DNSreport button. (They no longer allow offsite linking so you have to do it manually.)

See all that red? It’s saying that the DNS servers that you rhost uses are open to relaying and are probably overloaded. That may be the issue involved since you report that some times it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

And if your DNS is on thte same box your site is on, that may be also what’s causing the overloaded mysql as well which would explain your other error.

You may be on the wrong host. Some charge real low amounts of money to get clients in and then overload their boxes to make up the shortfall. This may be what is occuring here.
